Rhodium Plating Disclosure Statement

Josephs Jewelers may sell rhodium-plated jewelry and gift items, applied to white gold, gold, and other base metals. All jewelry designated as white gold is rhodium plated. Rhodium plating is a thin layer of precious metal applied to enhance the appearance, luster, and durability of the piece. Over time, with normal wear, the rhodium plating may wear away or lose its reflective finish.

Care Instructions:

To help preserve the plating, avoid exposure to harsh chemicals, abrasive surfaces, or prolonged moisture. Regular maintenance and gentle cleaning are recommended.

Important Note:

The underlying metal may become visible if the rhodium plating wears through. This is normal and does not affect the structural integrity of the jewelry.

Important Considerations for Consumers and Retailers:

  • Allergies: While rhodium is hypoallergenic, exposure of underlying nickel-based white gold may cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
  • Maintenance: Rhodium plating is thin and will eventually wear off; periodic re-plating may be necessary to maintain the finish.
  • Silver Plating: Rhodium plating directly on silver is not recommended, as the silver may contaminate the rhodium solution over time.
